Annapolis, Md. (February 20, 2016) – Austin Blake, Darren Mast and Peter Salomon each claimed victories in singles competition, but Mount St. Mary's men's tennis was edged by Navy, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Blake and Mateo DeSomocurcio topped Andrey Majkic and Aries Wong, 7-6 (9-7), in No. 1 doubles, but Walker Sims and Tyler Tossavainen defeated Louis Tonon and Brandon Wortkotter, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles and Parker Hayslett and Joshua Martin downed Mast and Salomon, 6-4, in No. 3 doubles as Navy claimed the doubles point.
In singles competition, Wong earned a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over DeSomocurcio in No. 1 singles, before Blake topped Sims, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles to even it up for the Mount. Majkic defeated Tonon, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 3 singles, before the Mount claimed back-to-back victories as Mast earned a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) win over Tossavainen at No. 4 singles and Salomon followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Hayslett in No. 5 singles. Cameron Kirkpatrick closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Wortkotter as Navy clipped the Mountaineers, 4-3.
The Mount returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 21) with a match at Lehigh at 2 p.m.
