Emmitsburg, Md. (September 9, 2015)—The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team swept visiting Shepherd, 7-0, on Wednesday night at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts.
In singles play, the Mount (1-0) took all six matches in straight sets. Austin Blake downed Grant Davis, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 1 singles spot while Mateo DeSomocurcio posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Will Wheatley at No. 2 singles. Louis Tonon captured a 6-2, 6-1 win over Austin Thomas at No. 3 singles with Darren Mast cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lewis Charette at No. 4 singles. Peter Salomon swept past Slay Smith, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles while Peter Landis was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles.
The Mount opened the match by taking all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Blake and Tonon paired for an 8-5 win over Davis and Thomas at No. 1 doubles while Mast and DeSomocurcio tallied an 8-3 win oer Charette and Wheatley at No. 2 doubles. Brandon Wortkotter and Chris Lindsey won 8-1 against Dempsey and Smith at No. 3 doubles.
The Mountaineers return to action at the Loyola Invitational on September 18-20.
