COMPLETE RESULTS
Emmitsburg, Md. (September 4, 2015)--Sophomore Hailey Johnson (Frederick, Md.) and freshman Ben Finnigan (Dover, N.H.) were the top finishers for the Mount St. Mary's cross country teams at the season-opening Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals on Friday afternoon.
The meet was scored in a dual-scoring format with each school receiving a dual-meet score against each of the other opponents. For the men, American went 4-0, followed by UMBC (3-1), George Washington (2-2), Loyola (1-3) and Mount St. Mary's (0-4).
On the women's side, UMBC captured first place with a perfect 6-0 mark, followed by George Washington (5-1), American (4-2), Towson (3-3), Maryland (1-4-1), Loyola (1-4-1) and the Mount (0-6).
Finnigan was the Mount's top runner on the men's side, finishing the five-kilometer course in a time of 16:58.3 to finish 24th overall. Jesse Langton (Hamilton Square, N.J.), Michael Kenney (Livonia, Mich.) and Chris Evans (Oakland, N.J.) were the next three finishers for the Mount, placing 35th, 36th and 38th overall. Nicholas Fransham (Sandia, Texas) rounded out the Mount's top five.
American's Brendan Johnson took home first place overall in the men's race for the second consecutive year with a time of 15:37.3.
Johnson was the top finisher for the Mountaineers in the women's race, posting a time of 21:11.0 for the five-kilometer course to place 42nd overall. Mary Funk (Gaithersburg, Md.) finished in 47th place with Eryka Colucci (Mount Laurel, N.J.), Jessica Hurtt (Churchville, Md.) and Madeline Rico (Rockville, Md.) rounding out the Mount's top five.
UMBC's Sarah Daly repeated her first place finish from a year ago, posting a time of 18:27.4 to lead the field.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, September 12, at the Nassaney Invitational hosted by Bryant University in a preview of this year's Northeast Conference Championship course.
