Freshmen Lead the Mount Cross Country Teams at the Nassaney Invitational

Smithfield, R.I. (September 12, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Nassaney Invitational hosted by Bryant University on Saturday morning.  The Mountaianeers finished in 10th place in both the men's and the women's races.

In the men's race, freshman Ben Finnigan was the Mount's top finisher, finishing 52nd overall in the field of 100 runners with a time of 16:11 for the five-kilometer course.   Junior Scott Baker (59th, 16:21) and graduate student Jesse Langton (63rd, 16:29) were the next fastest Mountaineers.  Chris Evans (66th, 16:34) and Michael Kenney (72nd, 16:42) rounded out the Mount's top five.

Providence won the men's race, followed by Brown, Boston University, Northeastern, Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut, Bryant, Rhode Island, St. Francis Brooklyn, the Mount and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Freshman Mary Funk led the way for the Mount women's team, finishing 47th overall with a time of 19:39 for the five-kilometer course.  Hailey Johnson was next for the Mount, placing 55th with a mark of 19:53.  The rest of the Mount's top five included Ashleigh Kocher, Eryka Colucci and Jill Greenwald.

Providence finished first in the women's race as well, followed by Sacred Heart, Boston Univ., Northeastern, Bryant, Brown, Rhode Island, CCSU, Fairleigh Dickinson, Mount St. Mary's, LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn.

The Mount is back in action on Saturday, October 3, at the George Mason Invitational.
