Mount St. Mary's Men's Tennis Hosts Loyola on Wednesday for Final Home Match This Season

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team plays its final home match of the season on Wednesday, April 8, versus in-state opponent Loyola. Following the match, the Mount will play one more dual match on April 12 at George Mason before getting ready for the Northeast Conference Tournament, which is scheduled for April 17-19 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. So far this season, Mateo DeSomocurcio has tallied a team-best 16 singles victories, while the Mount's No. 2 doubles pairing of Brandon Wortkotter and Austin Blake is leading the way with 13 wins as a tandem.

LAST TIME OUT: The Mount was handed its first Northeast Conference loss this season, dropping a 6-1 decision on the road at Saint Francis U at The Club Sport and Health on Thursday.

For the Mount, sophomore Mateo DeSomocurcio secured his team-leading 16th singles victory at the No. 2 slot, defeating Rodrigo Tico, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 10-2. The Red Flash won the three doubles matches and five other singles matches on the afternoon.

ABOUT LOYOLA: Selected seventh in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, Loyola rebounded from a 6-1 loss to Navy on April 1 with a 7-0 victory over Rider on April 6. The Greyhounds have gone 9-7 in dual matches this spring. Loyola also competed in the Mount St. Mary's Invitational at the Mount Tennis Courts earlier this season in October.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LOYOLA: Mount St. Mary's has defeated Loyola in the last three meetings and holds an 8-4 lead over the Greyhounds in the all-time series at the Division I level. In matches played in Emmitsburg, Md. in the series, the Mount has gone 3-2.

SENIORS: Wednesday will mark the final home match in the careers of seniors Adam Salam and Will Briscoe. Salam has won 38 career singles matches, including 16 as a sophomore during the 2012-13 season. In doubles play, Salam's 49 career wins are tied for the fourth-most in program history since moving to Division I prior to the 1988-89 season. Briscoe has picked up five singles victories in his career with the Mountaineers.

NEC PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was selected sixth in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Bryant received six of the first-place votes to be chosen to repeat as NEC Champions. FDU garnered the other top vote and finished second in the poll. Saint Francis U, Wagner and Sacred Heart checked in at 3-4-5, while the Mount was selected one spot ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn.

UP NEXT: The Mount plays its final regular season match on Sunday, April 12, at George Mason in Fairfax, Va.
