Monroeville, Pa. (April 2, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team was handed its first Northeast Conference loss this season, dropping a 6-1 decision on the road at Saint Francis U at The Club Sport and Health on Thursday.

For the Mount (9-5, 2-1 NEC) sophomore Mateo DeSomocurcio (Lima, Peru) secured his team-leading 16th singles victory at the No. 2 slot, defeating Rodrigo Tico, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 10-2. The Red Flash (6-7, 2-0 NEC) won the three doubles matches and five other singles matches on the afternoon.

Austin Blake (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and Brandon Wortkotter (Fort Myers, Fla.) played a back-and-forth No. 2 doubles match versus Chris Jimenez and Sergio Carvajal, eventually falling, 8-6.

In singles, Louis Tonon (Charlotte, N.C.) took Carvajal to a third set tiebreaker before losing, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7, at No. 5. Peter Salomon (Haymarket, Va.) also played a tight match at No. 6, dropping by scores of 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 10-8.

The Mountaineers will look to get back to their winning ways with a home match versus Loyola on Wednesday, April 8, at the Mount Tennis Courts.
