MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's University women's tennis squad begins its quest to earn its eighth Northeast Conference Championship with Friday's quarterfinals match versus third-seeded Saint Francis U at the Mercer County Tennis Center. The sixth-seeded Mountaineers are led by 10 singles wins apiece from Sruthi Kamprath, Danielle Nguyen, Cassandra Powell and Jennifer Smith.

ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The single-elimination tournament begins with quarterfinal matches on Friday, continues with semifinals on Saturday and ends with the championship match on Sunday. The winner will earn a spot in the NCAA Tennis Tournament.

LAST TIME OUT: The Mount was handed a tough 7-0 loss at George Mason in the regular season finale on April 12. Senior Danielle Nguyen played a highly-competitive No. 4 singles match versus Morgan Yang. After winning the first set, Nguyen could not hold on as Yang came back for a three-set victory.

ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS U: Carrying a 5-10 overall record, the third-seeded Red Flash concluded the regular season with losses to Dayton and Howard. Saint Francis won its only two NEC matches, defeating FDU and the Mount. Playing a majority of the season at the No. 3 singles slot, Alex Sachs leads SFU with 12 victories. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SAINT FRANCIS U: Mount St. Mary's has gone 14-8 versus the Red Flash dating back to the first meeting in 1997. Saint Francis U has won three in a row over the Mount, including a 7-0 victory earlier this season on April 2.

AT LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONSHIPS: Seeded seventh at last year's NEC Championships, the Mount dropped a 4-0 decision to second-seeded LIU Brooklyn in the quarterfinals. In her No. 2 singles match, Liz Rossi dropped the first set but was leading in the second when the match was halted. Danielle Nguyen was also leading the second set of her No. 6 singles match when LIU Brooklyn earned the four necessary points to win the match.

CHAMPIONSHIP PEDIGREE: Mount St. Mary's has won the most Northeast Conference Championships in league history with seven. The Mount set a conference record by winning seven in a row from 1989-95.

MOUNT IN THE TOURNEY: The Northeast Conference moved to a team-flighted tournament in 1998-99.  Since then, the Mount has posted an 8-16 record in the championship rounds and a 6-0 record in the consolation matches. 

TOURNEY SEEDS: The Mount enters the NEC Tournament as the sixth seed for the first time in program history.
