MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team looks for back-to-back wins for the first time this season with Saturday's home game versus first-year program Furman. The Mountaineers will be playing the third of 10 home games at Waldron Family Stadium this season.
LAST TIME OUT: Sophomore Kelly Maloney tallied a career-high seven points on six goals and one assist to carry the Mount to its first win of the season, defeating St. Bonaventure by a 17-11 final score on Wednesday at Waldron Family Stadium. It was the first victory for Mount St. Mary's first-year Head Coach Lauren Schwarzmann.
The Mount scored a season-best 17 goals thanks to a number of standout performances. Senior Erin Seipp tied a career high with five goals, and sophomore Sammie Knapp added her first-career four-goal effort while freshman Jannel Daufenbach recorded seven draw controls.
ABOUT FURMAN: Furman, a first-year program, is off to a 4-0 start with wins over Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb, Campbell and Fresno State. The Paladins are averaging 14.0 goals per game while giving up just 5.5 per game. Britt Douglass leads Furman with 13 goals with Devon Horine posting team highs for points (17), assists (5), ground balls (13), draw controls (15) and caused turnovers (9). In goal, Maggie Friel has made 23 saves and boasts at .511 save percentage.
CAREER DAY: A number of Mount players posted career days versus St. Bonaventure on March 4. Kelly Maloney and Sammie Knapp scored a career high with six and four goals, respectively. Erin Seipp also tied a career high with five goals.
DRAW CONTROLS: The Mountaineers won the draw controls battle in two of the first three games this season. Jannel Daufenbach has tallied a team-best nine so far this year with Megan Gluck adding five.
10-PLUS GOALS: The Mount's 17-goal performance last time out versus St. Bonaventure marked the first 10-plus goal performance for the team this season. Last year, the Mountaineers scored in double figures twice in an 18-3 win over Delaware State and a 10-9 overtime victory at Sacred Heart.
THE MARYLAND CONNECTION: Furman, which is located in Greenville, S.C., features 11 Maryland natives on its inaugural roster. Samantha Eckels, a starting defender for the Paladins, was a high school teammate of Mount sophomore Sammie Knapp at Loch Raven.
