Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 4, 2015) – Sophomore Kelly Maloney (Ellicott City, Md.) tallied a career-high seven points on six goals and one assist to carry the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team to its first win of the season, defeating St. Bonaventure by a 17-11 final score on Wednesday at Waldron Family Stadium. It was the first victory for Mount St. Mary's first-year Head Coach Lauren Schwarzmann.

"We are excited to get our first win of the season today," Schwarzmann said. "We started off strong from the beginning - credit to Jannel Daufenbach (South Riding, Va.) for doing a great job for us on the draw. We had some good looks on offense and finished our opportunities. For the most part, I am extremely proud of our team and their efforts today."

Daufenbach, who secured seven draw controls in the game, was just one of the standouts on the day for the Mount (1-2), which scored a season-best 17 goals. Senior Erin Seipp (Towson, Md.) tied a career high with five goals, while sophomore Sammie Knapp (Cub Hill, Md.) added her first-career four-goal effort.

For St. Bonaventure (0-2), Gabrielle Bradley and Mary Maestri scored four goals apiece to lead the offense.

The Bonnies jumped out to a 2-1 lead before the Mount put together a 3-0 spurt with goals from Maloney, Sam Sparr (Lexington Park, Md.) and Knapp in a 1:23 span for a 4-2 Mount advantage.

Over the next six minutes, St. Bonaventure regained the lead with goals off the sticks of LeighAnn Stauffer and Bradley. The Mountaineers dominated the next 10 minutes of the half with six goals, including three from Knapp and two from Seipp. The Mount kept the Bonnies off the board until Bradley's strike with eight seconds remaining in the half.

Seipp started the Mountaineers' offense in the second half with her third goal of the game in the opening five minutes for their largest lead at 11-5. The Bonnies bounced back with five goals in a four-minute span to cut the Mount's edge down to 11-10.

Molly Morris (Silver Spring, Md.) stopped the run with her first goal of the year with 20:55 left to begin a 6-0 run for the Mount capped by Seipp's fourth goal with 7:13 on the clock for a commanding 17-10 lead.

St. Bonaventure managed one goal the rest of the way as the Mount earned the six-goal victory.

The Mountaineers held a 26-16 edge in ground balls with Megan Gluck (South Riding, Va.) leading the way with five.

The Mount will look to make it two wins in a row with a home game versus Furman on Saturday, March 7, at noon.
