Mount Women's Tennis Looks to Extend Winning Streak with Two Matches This Week

MOUNT UPDATE: Winners of three in a row, the Mount takes on Coppin State at home on Wednesday before hitting the road for a match at Saint Francis U on Thursday. Two wins would give the Mount its first five-match winning streak since the 2009-10 season and mark the first 10-plus win season since 2011-12.

LAST TIME OUT: Facing a shorthanded St. Francis Brooklyn squad, the Mount cruised to a 7-0 victory at the Mount Tennis Courts in Northeast Conference action on Saturday. The Terriers defaulted at the three doubles matches as well as the No. 6 singles slot as the Mount won No. 1-5 singles in straight sets.

ABOUT COPPIN STATE: The Coppin State Eagles have gone 1-3 during the spring season and are coming off a 6-0 loss to MEAC opponent Norfolk State on March 28. The lone win of the season for the Eagles came by a 4-3 score over UMES on March 27.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. COPPIN STATE: The Mount has won six in a row and 15 out of 16 over the Eagles in the all-time series. The Mountaineers have not lost to Coppin State since 2006.

ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS U: After losing three matches in a row, Saint Francis U picked up a 4-3 win over three-time defending NEC Champion FDU on March 27. Other victories for the Red Flash have come against Chicago State, St. Bonaventure and Bucknell.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SAINT FRANCIS U: After winning nine in a row over the Red Flash, the Mount has lost its last two in the series. The Mount still leads the all-time series, 14-7.

NEC PRESEASON POLL: The Mount was selected sixth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, ahead of Wagner and St. Francis Brooklyn. Three-time defending Northeast Conference champion Fairleigh Dickinson topped the poll with five first-place votes, followed by LIU Brooklyn in second with two top votes. Bryant, which picked up the other top vote, checked in at third, with Sacred Heart and Saint Francis U to follow.

UP NEXT: The Mount host a pair of home matches next week, taking on Loyola on Wednesday, April 8, and Howard on Thursday, April 9.
