MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team looks to improve on its 8-4 record with a home match versus Coppin State on April 1 followed by a road test at Saint Francis U on April 2. Two wins would give the Mount 10-plus wins for the fourth season in a row and extend the Mount's winning streak to four matches. Sophomore Mateo DeSomocurcio has secured a team-best 14 singles victories thanks to a dominating 9-1 record at the No. 2 slot this season. In doubles, Austin Blake and Brandon Wortkotter have gone 12-2 and are three wins away from moving into the top five in program history for single-season victories.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mount moved to 2-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 7-0 home victory over St. Francis Brooklyn at the Mount Tennis Courts on Saturday. The win ensures the Mountaineers will finish with at least a .500 record in the regular season with an 8-4 overall mark with four matches remaining.
The Mount took the doubles point from the Terriers thanks to wins at all three slots. The home side went on to win all six of the singles matches to close the afternoon.
ABOUT COPPIN STATE: The Eagles are 1-6 on the season with the team's lone win coming by a 4-0 final score versus UMES on March 27. Last time out on March 28, Coppin State was handed a 6-0 defeat at Norfolk St.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. COPPIN STATE: Mount St. Mary's has gone 13-2 versus Coppin State in the all-time series dating back to 1997. The Mount has beaten the Eagles in each of the last four seasons and carries a six match winning streak over Coppin State in the series.
ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS U: The 5-7 Red Flash have won two in a row entering Thursday's match. Saint Francis U defeated Wagner, 5-2, in the Northeast Conference opener on March 21. Saint Francis also has victories over Chicago State, St. Bonaventure, Bucknell and Wright State this year.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SAINT FRANCIS U: Thursday will mark the 31st all-time meeting between the Mount and Saint Francis U since the Mount's first Division I season in 1988-89. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series, 18-12, but SFU won a pair of matches against the Mount a year ago.
