Emmitsburg, Md. (March 28, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team moved to 2-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 7-0 home victory over St. Francis Brooklyn at the Mount Tennis Courts on Saturday. The win ensures the Mountaineers will finish with at least a .500 record in the regular season with an 8-4 overall mark with four matches remaining.
The Mount took the doubles point from the Terriers (0-14, 0-3 NEC) thanks to wins at all three slots. The home side went on to win all six of the singles matches to close the afternoon.
At No. 1 doubles, Adam Salam (Wallingford, Pa.) and Mateo DeSomocurcio (Lima, Peru) paired for an 8-5 victory, while the Mount's No. 2 duo of Brandon Wortkotter (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Austin Blake (Garnet Valley, Pa.) improved to 12-2 with an 8-3 win.
Sophomores Louis Tonon (Charlotte, N.C.) and Darren Mast (Lancaster, Pa.) made it a clean sweep in doubles with an 8-0 victory at No. 3.
The Mount's dominance continued in singles play with six victories. Blake defeated the Terriers' No. 1 player Francesc Terns-Campius in comeback fashion at 6-7 (7-3), 7-5, 10-8. Salam also came away victorious in three sets at the No. 3 slot.
DeSomocurcio (No. 2), Mast (No. 4), Tonon (No. 5) and Peter Salomon (No. 6) all cruised to straight set victories in singles action.
The Mountaineers will look to make it three wins in a row with a home match versus Coppin State on April 1.
