Mount St. Mary's Men's Tennis Defeats Delaware, 5-2

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 22, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team secured its first victory over Delaware since 1991 with a 5-2 victory on Sunday at the Mount Tennis Courts. The win for the Mount snaps a nine match losing streak to the Blue Hens.

Mount St. Mary's (7-4) jumped on Delaware (0-12) by taking the doubles point thanks to victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. The Mountaineers went on to win the top four singles matches to earn the victory.

The Mount's No. 2 doubles pairing of Brandon Wortkotter (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Austin Blake (Garnet Valley, Pa.) picked up a team-leading 11th victory, downing Tyler Flematti and Colin Wong, 8-2. At the No. 3 slot, sophomores Louis Tonon (Charlotte, N.C.) and Darren Mast (Lancaster, Pa.) were 8-4 winners in their match versus Alex Sweet and Mike Furr.

Blake added another victory in singles play, winning his No. 1 singles match against Furr. Sophomore Mateo DeSomocurcio (Lima, Peru) posted a 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 comeback victory at the No. 2 position.

Adam Salam (Wallingford, Pa.) and Mast secured straight-set wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 slots, respectively.

Next on the schedule, the Mount hosts St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, March 28.
