Emmitsburg, Md. (March 15, 2015) -- The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team picked up its first Northeast Conference victory of the season with Sunday's 4-3 home win over Wagner at the Mount Tennis Courts.
The Mountaineers swept the three doubles matches to earn the point before winning three singles matches to secure the victory. For the Mount (6-3, 1-0 NEC), it was the program's seventh-consecutive win over Wagner (7-6, 1-1 NEC).
At the top doubles slot, Adam Salam (Wallingford, Pa.) and Mateo DeSomocurcio (Lima, Peru) cruised to an 8-2 victory. The Mount's all-sophomore duo of Louis Tonon (Charlotte, N.C.) and Darren Mast (Lancaster, Pa.) also made quick work of their opponent with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
The No. 2 doubles match with the Mount's Austin Blake (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and Brandon Wortkotter (Fort Myers, Fla.) taking on Wagner's Charlton Boyd and Ryan Khan went down to the wire with the Mount's duo earning a hard-fought 8-7 (8-6) win.
The home side was able to pull out victories in three of the six singles matches for the win.
Blake won his No. 1 singles match, downing Wagner's Michal Rolski, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. Salam was also a winner at the No. 3 slot by scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). The deciding match was won by Peter Salomon (Haymarket, Va.) in straight-set fashion, 6-3, 6-1, against Sam Flaxman at No. 6 singles.
Next up, the Mount heads to Bucknell for a mid-week match on Wednesday, March 18, at 3 p.m.
