MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team heads to Florida for its spring break trip to play five matches in six days. Carrying a 2-1 record, the Mount defeated Rider and Shepherd in the fall season before falling to Howard in the spring opener.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mount was handed a 4-3 road loss by Howard at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation in the spring opener on Feb. 14. Freshman Brandon Wortkotter won his singles and doubles matches to lead the Mount on the day. Louis Tonon and Peter Salomon also added singles wins for the Mountaineers.
ALL-TIME SERIES…
vs. Ohio Northern: The Mount is 0-2 versus Ohio Northern, dropping neutral site matches in 2008 and 2009.
vs. Augustana: The Mountaineers defeated Augustana, 7-0, in the first-ever meeting on Feb. 24, 2013.
vs. Bethune-Cookman: Bethune-Cookman carries a 4-1 lead in the series with the Mount. Last season, the Mount picked up its first win over the MEAC opponent by a 4-3 final score.
vs. Otterbein: The Mount has never faced Otterbein.
vs. Detroit: The Mount has never faced Detroit.
LAST SEASON IN FLORIDA: In last spring's trip to Florida, the Mount compiled a 3-2 record with wins over Bethune-Cookman, Concordia-Moorhead and Davenport.
MOUNT LEADERS: Sophomores Darren Mast and Mateo DeSomocurcio are tied for the team lead with six singles victories apiece. In doubles, Austin Blake and Brandon Wortkotter have paired for a perfect 5-0 record.
NEC PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was selected sixth in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Bryant received six of the first-place votes to be chosen to repeat as NEC Champions. FDU garnered the other top vote and finished second in the poll. Saint Francis U, Wagner and Sacred Heart checked in at 3-4-5, while the Mount was selected one spot ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn.
