Mount Men's Tennis Preps for Lehigh on Sunday

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount continues its spring schedule with a match versus Lehigh on Sunday. The squad's match on Saturday versus Wagner has been cancelled. 

LAST TIME OUT: Despite a pair of victories from freshman Brandon Wortkotter, the Mount dropped a 4-3 decision at Howard on Feb. 14 to open the spring season. In doubles, Wortkotter paired with sophomore Darren Mast for a 6-0 win at No. 3. Moving to singles play, Wortkotter won his match at the No. 6 slot, while Louis Tonon (No. 4) and Peter Salomon (No. 5) were also victorious in singles.

ABOUT LEHIGH: The Mountain Hawks have played six home matches so far this spring, posting a 4-2 record. Lehigh had won three in a row, including a victory over Northeast Conference opponent Saint Francis U, before a 4-0 defeat versus Richmond last time out on Feb. 14. Jeremy Kochman has a team-best five singles victories this spring, while playing a majority of his matches at No. 4.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LEHIGH: The Mount is winless in the 12 all-time matchups with Lehigh dating back to 1991. Sunday will mark the eighth season in a row the two sides have met. The Mountain Hawks have won each of the last four meetings by 7-0 final scores.

MOUNT LEADERS: Sophomores Darren Mast and Mateo DeSomocurcio lead the Mount with six singles victories apiece. In doubles play, Austin Blake and Brandon Wortkotter have combined for a team-best five wins.

NEC PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was selected sixth in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Bryant received six of the first-place votes to be chosen to repeat as NEC Champions. FDU garnered the other top vote and finished second in the poll. Saint Francis U, Wagner and Sacred Heart checked in at 3-4-5, while the Mount was selected one spot ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn.

UP NEXT: The Mount heads to Orlando, Fla. for five matches in a six-day span. The Mount will face Ohio Northern, Augustana, Bethune-Cookman, La Salle and Detroit from March 1-6.
