Washington, D.C. (February 14, 2015) – In the spring opener, the Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team was handed a 4-3 road loss by Howard at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation on Saturday. Freshman Brandon Wortkotter (Fort Myers, Fla.) won his singles and doubles matches on the day.

Mount St. Mary's (2-1) fell behind after Howard (1-3) won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2. At the No. 3 slot, sophomore Darren Mast (Lancaster, Pa.) and Wortkotter paired for a convincing 6-0 win over Howard's Hawkin Owens and Nico Sorrell.

The Mountaineers pulled off victories at No. 4-6 singles, but the Bison added to their point total with wins at the top three slots for the 4-3 team win.

Sophomore Louis Tonon (Charlotte, N.C.) was a straight-set winner at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-1 against Lagua Foster, while junior Peter Salomon (Haymarket, Va.) picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Owens in No. 5 action.

Wortkotter secured his second win on the day, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 6 singles versus Sorrell.

Next on the schedule, the Mount squares off with Northeast Conference opponent Wagner on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. in Waynesboro, Pa.

NOTE: The Mount's all-time record versus Howard falls to 8-9 since moving to Division I prior to the 1988-89 season.
