Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (October 11, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team capped a successful weekend with a 3-0 win over visiting LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on campus. Jordan Fine (Taneytown, Md.), Kirsten O'Malley (Montoursville, Pa.) and Nikki Pinto (West Deptford, N.J.) each scored to lift the Mountaineers to the win.
Fine gave the Mount a 1-0 lead when she scored with 6.9 seconds left in the opening half. Senior Emma Blair (Shillington, Pa.) made a nice pass to free Fine on a breakaway in the closing seconds of the half. Fine was able to deke past LIU goalkeeper Jessica Montrose and slide the shot into the back of the net to give the Mount a 1-0 halftime lead.
An early goal in the second half stretched the Mount's advantage to 2-0. O'Malley was able to head home the ball after Montrose punched away a Sam Manson (Wall, N.J.) ball that was sent into the box.
Mount St. Mary's clinched the victory with Pinto's goal in the 79th minute. O'Malley had the ball in the middle of the penalty box, and slid a pass over to Pinto, who buried the shot for her third goal of the season.
Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Rachel Bourne (Baltimore, Md.) tallied nine saves, including a pair of acrobatic saves where she tipped the ball over the crossbar, to earn her second consecutive shutout.
THe Mount held a 20-18 advantage in shots in the game, including a 14-to-9 margin in shots on goal. O'Malley finished the game with a goal and an assist to pace the offense, as the Mount matched its season high with three goals. Montrose made 11 saves for LIU (3-11-0, 0-4-0 NEC).
Mount St. Mary's earned four points in the NEC standings this weekend with today's win over LIU Brooklyn and Friday night's scoreless draw with Central Connecticut. The Mount heads out for a pair of NEC road games next weekend, starting with a Friday afternoon matchup at Bryant.
GAME NOTES: The Mount is now 4-14-1 all-time against LIU Brooklyn...The Mount's last win over the Blackbirds was a 1-0 home victory on September 30, 2011.
