The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team begins Northeast Conference play this weekend, beginning with a Friday night road game at Fairleigh Dickinson.
OPENING WHISTLE: The Mountaineers close out their four-game road trip with the Northeast Conference opener at Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night. The Mount dropped the first three games of the trip, including 2-1 loss at Delaware State on Sunday. The Hornets scored the game-winner on a free kick with 38 seconds left. Freshman Nikki Pinto's second goal of the season tied the score in the second half. Freshman Jenna West, who leads the Mountaineers with eight points (3g, 2a), recorded an assist on the play. Quinn Costello-Mays has started five of the Mount's 11 games in goal, posting a 2.29 goals against average and a .500 save percentage.
NEC PLAY BEGINS: The Mountaineers begin their 21st season of Northeast Conference play on Friday night at Fairleigh Dickinson. The Mount had a tough season last year in league play, finishing with a 1-6-1 mark. The Mountaineers tied CCSU, 1-1, in the final game of the regular season while defeating Bryant, 2-1, in overtime at home. The Mountaineers will be looking to turn things around on the road as they are 1-13-2 over their past 16 NEC road games.
ABOUT FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON: Fairleigh Dickinson enters Friday's Northeast Conference opener with a 6-5-0 record. The Knights have won their past two games, a 1-0 win over Hartford and a 4-1 win over Columbia. FDU sports a perfect 4-0 record at home this season.
* Carly Tice and Rachel Hoekstra lead FDU offense, which has posted 20 goals on the season. Tice leads the team with seven goals and three assists for 17 points while Hoekstra has six goals and 13 points. Felicia Burr has started all 11 games in goal, tallying a 1.97 GAA and a .645 save percentage.
* The Mount is 5-9-1 all-time against Fairleigh Dickinson, with all 15 matchups coming in NEC regular season play. The Mount is 2-5-0 on the road against the Knights with their last win at FDU coming on October 9, 2011.
ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS U: The Red Flash are 0-9-1 on the season and open their Northeast Conference slate at Wagner on Friday before heading to Emmitsburg to face the Mount. Saint Francis has not played since a 4-0 loss at Navy on September 20.
* Saint Francis has scored just five goals this season with Allison LaDuke and Sara Suler each with two. Romina Kunze has a 2.47 goals against average while starting eight of the team's 10 games on the year.
* The Mountaineers are 9-15-1 all-time against Saint Francis U, including 8-11-1 in NEC regular season matchups. The Mountaineers are 6-5-1 at home in NEC regular season games against the Red Flash. The Mount's last win over the Red Flash was a 1-0 victory on October 16, 2009, at Waldron Family Stadium.
THE MOUNT AND THE NORTHEAST CONFERENCE: This will be the Mount's 21st season in the Northeast Conference for women's soccer.
* Mount St. Mary's will be looking to qualify for its first NEC Tournament spot since 1997. The Mount qualified for the NEC Tournament from 1995-97, the only three years the school has advanced to the postseason.
* The Mount has a 51-108-15 all-time in NEC regular season games, including a 35-45-9 mark at home.
