University Park, Pa. (September 13, 2014)—The Mount St. Mary's cross country teams continued their season today on a rainy and cold Saturday morning at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State. Kristen Galligan led the women's team with freshman Chris Evans posting the top finish on the men's side at the meet that featured several ranked teams.
Galligan finished 31st overall at the meet to pace the women's squad. She posted a time of 22:19 for the six-kilometer course on the Penn State Blue-White Golf Course. Megan Schott was the Mount's second-fastest finisher, placing 54th in the field of 130 runners. McKenzie Doyle, Hailey Johnson and Jill Greenwald rounded out the Mount's top five.
No. 29 Penn State won the women's meet, followed by No. 13 Syracuse, Duquesne, Pittsburgh, No. 20 West Virginia, Geneseo St., St. Bonaventure, Cortland State, the Mount and Susquehanna.
Evans, the Mount's top finisher in the men's race, placed 92nd in the field of 133 with a time of 28:22 for the 5.2-mile course. Thomas Selishev, Jesse Langton, Chris Jewell and Kody Wilson rounded out the Mount's top five runners.
Penn State won the men's race as well, followed by No. 8 Syracuse, No. 29 Georgetown, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Pittsburgh, Geneseo St., Duquesne, Cortland State, Susquehanna, St. Bonaventure and the Mount.
The Mount is back in action in two weeks at the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State. The course will be the same as this year's Northeast Conference Championships.
