Seniors Pace Mount Cross Country Teams at 5K Duals

Emmitsburg, Md. (August 29, 2014)--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2014 season on Friday by hosting the annual Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals.  Senior Jesse Langton was the Mount's top runner on the men's side while senior Megan Schott was the top finisher for the Mount women.

The meet was scored in a dual-scoring format with each school receiving a dual-meet score against each of the other opponents.  For the men, Navy and UMBC each went 2-0-1 to share the team title, followed by American (1-2) and Mount St. Mary's (0-3).

On the women's side, Navy captured first place with a 4-0 record, followed by UMBC (3-1), Maryland (2-2), American (1-3) and Mount St. Mary's (0-4).

Langton finished in 16th place overall with a time of 16:02.84 to lead the Mountaineers.  Freshman Chris Evans was the next-fastest finisher for the Mount, placing 19th overall at 16:06.67.  Chris Eltringham (25th), Thomas Selishev (27th) and Kieran Tonero (35th) rounded out the Mount's top five.

American's Brendan Johnson finished the 5-kilometer course in 14:56.72 to take home individual race honors.  It is the fifth consecutive season that a runner from American has won the men's race.

On the women's side, Schott finished the 5-kilometer course in 19:11.65 to finish 28th overall.  Freshmen Hailey Johnson (48th) and Jill Greenwald (51st) were the next fastest runners for the Mount.  McKenzie Doyle and Desi Scott rounded out the team's top five.

Sarah Daly (UMBC) won the women's race with a time of 17:50.98.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Saturday, September 13, at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State.
