Baltimore, Md. (April 9, 2014) – After taking the doubles point to start the day, the Mount men's tennis team went on to win three singles matches to earn a 4-1 win at Loyola on Wednesday at the Butler Courts. Austin Blake and Mike Zabetakis won their doubles and singles matches on the day for the Mountaineers.
With the win, the Mount (10-9) picked up its 10th win of the season, marking the fifth season since Head Coach Phil Hammond's arrival before the 2004-05 campaign the Mount has reached 10 wins.
Beginning with doubles play, the Mount's top duo of Peter Salomon and Louis Tonon earned an 8-5 win over Harrison Kunkel and Connor Lisco of Loyola (8-5). Blake and Zabetakis teamed up for an 8-3 win against Connor Pietrak and Alex Castro at No. 3 to give the Mount the doubles point.
At the No. 1 singles position, Adam Salam registered his second win of the season, downing Pietrak in three sets, while Blake was a straight-set winner over Kunkel at No. 2. Zabetakis was able to cruise to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 to give the Mount the win with four points.
Loyola won at No. 6 singles, while matches at No. 3 and 4 went unfinished due to darkness.
The Mount concludes the regular season with matches at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, April 12, and Saint Peter's on Sunday, April 13.
