Fairfax, Va. (April 6, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team lost Sunday's match at George Mason by a final score of 6-1. Senior Mike Zabetakis won his No. 5 singles match, and the Mount's No. 2 doubles team picked up another win on the day.
Beginning Sunday's action in doubles, the Mount (9-9) was victorious at the No. 2 slot where junior Adam Salam paired with freshman Mateo DeSomocurcio for an 8-6 win over Taylor Sargent and Tanner Baine of George Mason (9-8). The Patriots took the other two doubles matches to earn the point moving into singles.
Zabetakis took down Nick Parker at No. 5 singles to pick up the Mount's point. Zabetakis won the first set, 6-2, but lost in the second to force a third set. In the decisive third, Zabetakis came away with a 6-4 win to claim the victory.
Darren Mast, the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, also played a three-set match at No. 6 versus Sargent. After falling in the first set in a tiebreaker, Mast forced a third with a 6-4 win before falling 12-10 in the final set. The Patriots won No. 1-4 singles in straight sets.
On Wednesday, April 9, the Mount makes the short trip to Baltimore, Md. to take on Loyola. First serve is slated for 3:15 p.m.
