Mount Men's Tennis Earns 5-2 Road Win at Coppin State

Baltimore, Md. (April 2, 2014) – Powered by the doubles point and four singles victories, the Mount men's tennis team earned a 5-2 road win at Coppin State on Wednesday afternoon.

Beginning the day in doubles action, the Mount (9-8) took No. 2 by default and was victorious at No. 3 to pick up the 1-0 advantage over Coppin State (2-7) heading into singles. Austin Blake, the reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Week, paired with Mike Zabetakis for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Eagles won the top two matches, but the Mount was victorious at No. 3-6 to take the non-conference win.

Freshman Mateo DeSomocurcio earned a straight set win in his No. 3 singles match, as did Peter Salomon at No. 4 and Louis Tonon at No. 6. NEC Rookie of the Week Darren Mast came away with a victory at No. 5 after falling behind to Reginald Robinson. After Robinson won the first set, Mast recovered with wins in the second and third sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

Next up, the Mount is set to take on George Mason on the road on Sunday, April 6, at noon.

MATCH NOTE: The Mount improves to 13-2 in the all-time series versus Coppin State.
