Box Score

Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 13, 2014) – A career-high four goals from senior Mary MacAdam was not enough to lift the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team to victory, falling to LIU Brooklyn by a 12-8 final score on the road in Northeast Conference play on Sunday.

After falling behind 5-4 at halftime, the Mountaineers (2-11, 1-3 NEC) tied the score at 5-5 in the first minute of the second half. The Blackbirds (3-10, 1-3 NEC) answered with four of the next five goals to seize control and outscored the Mount by a 7-4 margin in the final 30 minutes. Danita Stroup netted four goals to pace LIU, while Tori Shinkowitz and Jenn Peters added three goals apiece for the home side.

For the Mount, which held a 12-10 edge in draw controls, senior Bridget McGann scored twice to help the offense and junior Erin Seipp dished out two assists on the day.

Goals by MacAdam and Megan Gluck sandwiched a tally from LIU's Peters for a 2-1 Mount lead just over six minutes into the game. Stroup's first strike of the contest leveled the score at 2-2 with 23:01 left in the first half.

The Mount regained the edge at 3-2 when MacAdam notched her second goal off a Seipp feed, but the Blackbirds scored three more goals to take a 5-3 advantage with just under five minutes showing on the first half clock.

McGann ripped a shot past LIU goalkeeper Alexis Maldanado off a pass from Aubrey Rubino with 2:32 left in the first half to send the Mountaineers to the locker room down 5-4 at halftime.

Lindsay Diaz assisted on MacAdam's third goal of the day in the first minute of the second half to knot the score at 5-5. Over an 11:07 stretch, Shinkowitz scored three times and Peters added another, while McGann scored for the Mount as LIU took a 9-6 lead with 14:53 remaining.

MacAdam completed her four-goal effort with a free position goal to cut the Mount's deficit down to 9-7, but LIU answered with a pair of goals, pushing the lead back to 11-7 with four minutes to play.

Diaz notched the Mount's final goal of the day with 2:33 left, and LIU's Stroup scored in the final minute to seal the Blackbirds' victory.

Between the pipes, Mount goalkeeper Steph Rurkowski made four saves, while Maldonado stopped nine shots for LIU. The Mount won the ground balls battle with 13 to LIU's 12, with freshman Sammie Knapp leading the way with four ground balls.

Next on the schedule, the Mount plays on the road at Wagner on Friday, April 18, at 3 p.m.
