Jersey City, N.J. (April 13, 2014) – The Mount men's tennis team wrapped up regular season action with a 4-3 road loss at Saint Peter's on Sunday. The Mountaineers conclude the 2013-14 regular season with a 10-11 mark.
In the loss, freshman Mateo DeSomocurcio won his doubles and singles matches over his opponents from Saint Peter's (8-9).
For the third match in a row, the Mount won the doubles point thanks to victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2, DeSomocurcio paired with Adam Salam for an 8-6 win, while the No. 3 tandem of Austin Blake and Mike Zabetakis was an 8-5 winner for the 1-0 edge heading to singles.
DeSomocurcio continued to play well in singles with a 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 win over Fabian Valdiviezo at No. 3. The Mount's other singles victory came at No. 6 where fellow freshman Louis Tonon earned a straight set 6-2, 6-2 win against Luke Whaley. The Peacocks won the remaining four singles matches for the victory.
The Mount now turns its attention to the Northeast Conference Tournament scheduled for April 17-19 in West Windsor, N.J.
