Mount Men's Tennis Falls to FDU, 6-1, after Winning Doubles Point

Teaneck, N.J. (April 12, 2014) – Momentum from winning the doubles point did not carry over to singles play as the Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Fairleigh Dickinson in the Mount's final Northeast Conference regular season match on Saturday at the FDU Tennis Center.

The Mount (10-10, 1-3 NEC) got off to a fast start, taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles over the Knights (3-8, 2-1 NEC). At No. 2, the duo of Adam Salam and Mateo DeSomocurcio defeated FDU's Jacob Whalley and Arnaud Valentin, 8-6, to move to 3-1 versus NEC opponents this season.

Earning their team-leading 14th doubles win of the season, Austin Blake and Mike Zabetakis paired up to down Diogo Garnel and Julien Philippe by an 8-5 margin at No. 3 doubles.

Singles action did not go the Mount's way as the Knights won five of six matches in straight sets. DeSomocurcio stretched his No. 3 singles match against Gonzalo Quintana to three sets before suffering defeat.

Tomorrow, the Mount takes on Saint Peter's at 11 a.m. for the regular season finale.
