Mount Men's Tennis Continues Spring Schedule at Navy on Sunday

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount enters Sunday's action winners of three-consecutive matches. There is a four-way tie for the team lead with six singles victories held by sophomores Austin Blake and Peter Salomon, as well as freshmen Darren Mast and Mateo DeSomocurcio.

LAST TIME OUT: During a spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., the Mount went 3-2 with wins over Bethune-Cookman, Concordia Moorhead and Davenport. After losing matches on the first two days to Webber International and Palm Beach Atlantic, the Mount responded with three wins in a row.

ABOUT NAVY: The Mids had won four matches in a row before falling to No. 55 George Washington, 6-1, on March 8. Austin Jones leads Navy, which is 8-5 on the season, with 15 singles wins, including five as the team's No. 2 player. Playing anywhere in the lineup from No. 4-6, Alex Gaines has won five singles matches in a row. The Mids finished as the Patriot League runner-up a season ago.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. NAVY: The Mount is 0-12 versus the Naval Academy since making the jump to Division I before the 1988-89 academic year. The two sides have squared off each of the last three years with Navy winning by scores of 7-0, 6-1 and 7-0.

BURSTING ONTO THE SCENE: Joining the team at the beginning of the spring semester, Mateo DeSomocurcio has made an early impact on the team with a 6-1 singles mark. The Lima, Peru native has won five singles matches in a row and has three straight-set victories to his name. He also has a 5-1 doubles record while playing alongside Darren Mast, Louis Tonon and Adam Salam.

UP NEXT: The Mount hosts Saint Francis U on March 15 and Robert Morris on March 16 to kick off Northeast Conference play.
