MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount had its two-match winning streak snapped with a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Bucknell on March 27. Despite the loss, the Mount won the doubles point for the seventh time this season. A pair of freshmen, Darren Mast and Mateo DeSomocurcio, have winning records in singles this season with Mast checking in at 11-8, while DeSomocurcio's record is 9-3.
LAST TIME OUT: After winning the doubles point, the Mount could not sustain its momentum into singles play and fell, 4-3, to Bucknell at the Mount Tennis Courts on March 27. Austin Blake and Mike Zabetakis earned their team-leading 11th win by a score of 8-3 at No. 2, while the all-freshmen tandem of Darren Mast and Louis Tonon were also 8-3 winners in their No. 3 doubles match. In singles, Blake (No. 2) and Mast (No. 5) added wins for the Mount.
ABOUT COPPIN STATE: The Eagles enter Wednesday's match with a 2-6 record with victories over UMES and NEC opponent Wagner. Coppin State is familiar with the Mount, having competed in the Mount St. Mary's Invitational in Emmitsburg on Sept. 13-15.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. COPPIN STATE: The Mount is 12-2 versus Coppin State and has won five in a row against the Eagles. The two sides began squaring off in 1997.
MOUNT VS. THE MEAC: The Mountaineers are 30-19 all-time versus teams in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, including matches against Coppin State. The Mount has also played well against Morgan State and Howard, beating both teams seven times apiece.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Mount made its final home appearance at the Mount Tennis Courts on March 27 versus Bucknell. This season, the Mount finished with a 3-3 home record and will play the final five regular season matches on the road.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: The first Mount player to win an individual award from the NEC this season, freshman Mateo DeSomocurcio was named NEC Rookie of the Week on March 20. DeSomocurcio has been one of the Mount's most consistent singles players since joining the team mid-season and leads the Mount with a .750 winning percentage with nine wins in 12 singles matches.
UP NEXT: The Mount heads to Fairfax, Va. on Sunday, April 6, to face George Mason at noon.
