Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (March 15, 2014) – The Mount women's lacrosse team fell to UMBC, 15-2, at Waldron Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Sammie Knapp and senior Erin Seipp tallied goals on the day for the Mountaineers.
Trailing 14-0 midway through the second half, Seipp and Knapp scored within 1:29 of each other to get the Mount (1-6) on the board. For UMBC (3-4), six players notch multi-goal games, including a hat trick from Kristen Bilney.
The Retrievers got out to a fast start and led 6-0 after 15 minutes. UMBC would go on to score six more times before halftime for an 11-0 edge. UMBC held a 19-6 advantage in shots in the first half and 23-12 for the game.
The Mount, which won 13 draw controls to UMBC's six on the day, turned it around with a better second half. The Mountaineers outshot the Retrievers, 6-4, in the final 30 minutes and recorded six ground balls to UMBC's five in the second half.
UMBC tallied the second half's first three goals before Seipp and Knapp got the Mount on the board with strikes at the 12:39 and 11:18 marks.
Melissa Cox secured team-highs with five draw controls and three ground balls, while Lindsay Diaz recorded four draw controls for the Mount.
In goal, UMBC's Anna Barnett made four saves in the first 38:32 of the game without giving up a goal before being relieved by Kelly Gielner and Alyssa Goldeisen. For the Mount, Steph Rurkowski made two saves, and Meg Clester made her collegiate debut, playing the final 10:55 between the pipes.
Next on the schedule, the Mount heads to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on Duquesne on March 23 at 1 p.m.
