MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount plays its fourth home game of the season on Saturday to cap a lacrosse doubleheader at Waldron Family Stadium. The Mount's men's team squares off with No. 20 Drexel prior to the women's team's 3 p.m. start. Offensively, 11 different players have scored for the Mountaineers with four averaging better than one goal per game this season in Lindsay Diaz (1.67 goals per game), Erin Seipp (1.60), Hannah Gutcher (1.17) and Kelly Maloney (1.17).
LAST TIME OUT: In a game that went back and forth for the first 12 minutes, the Mount was tied with George Washington at 4-4 with 18:17 left in the first half of the game on March 12. The Colonials would go onto score 10 of the next 11 goals for a 14-5 halftime lead. At the end of the day, the Mount was handed an 18-8 loss. Seniors Bridget McGann and Lindsay Diaz both posted two-goal games, while Steph Rurkowski made a career-high 17 saves.
ABOUT UMBC: The Retrievers have been outscored by a 66-41 margin through six games this season. Holding one-goal wins over American and La Salle, UMBC is looking to snap a two-game slide that includes losses to High Point and Drexel. Led by seven goals apiece from Kristen Bilney and Alyssa Semones, the Retrievers are 1-2 in road games this season.
LAST SEASON VS. UMBC: Trailing 9-3 at halftime, the Mount saw UMBC pull away with nine second-half goals in an 18-4 defeat on the road on March 15, 2013. Erin Seipp, Megan Gluck, Lindsay Diaz and Hannah Gutcher all scored on the day for the Mount. Gabe Little led all players with six ground balls for the Mount. Then-junior Kristen Bilney led the UMBC attack with five goals on seven shots.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UMBC: Mount St. Mary's is 1-12 versus UMBC dating back to the first-ever meeting in 1996. The Retrievers have won three in a row against the Mountaineers with the Mount's last win in the series occurring in 2004.
MOUNT VS. MARYLAND SCHOOLS: The Mount is 1-30 versus the six other Maryland schools that play Division I lacrosse. Of all the schools, the Mount has faced UMBC the most, with Saturday's matchup marking the 14th all-time meeting.
CONSISTENT SCORING: Lindsay Diaz has scored at least one goal in all six of the Mount's games this season. The Mount's leader with 10 goals this year, Diaz has started all 62 games of her collegiate career, while her 60 career goals are good for 22nd in school history.
UP NEXT: The Mount takes on Duquesne on Sunday, March 23, in Pittsburgh, Pa. at 1 p.m. before beginning a three-game homestand starting with Columbia on March 30.
