Orlando, Fla. (February 28, 2014) – The Mount men's tennis team won its third-consecutive match on Friday, beating Davenport by a final score of 4-3 in the final match of the team's spring break trip.
Earlier in the week, the Mount (6-4) defeated Bethune-Cookman and Concordia Moorhead to go with losses to Webber International and Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Mount took two of three doubles matches from Davenport (8-4) and won three of six singles matches. Adam Salam and Mateo DeSomocurcio won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, and Austin Blake and Mike Zabetakis teamed up for an 8-7 (9-7) victory at No. 3 for a 1-0 edge heading to singles.
DeSomocurcio improved to 6-1 on the season with a three-set win over Juan-Philip van Antwerpen at No. 3 singles. Falling in the first set, DeSomocurcio won the second set, 7-6 (10-8) as well as the third set tiebreaker, 6-2.
At No. 5, Zabetakis earned a win in three sets, while Mast was a straight-set winner at No. 6.
Next on the schedule, the Mount takes on Navy in Annapolis, Md. on March 9 at noon.
