Orlando, Fla. (February 23, 2014) – After winning the doubles point, the Mount men's tennis team fell in five of six singles matches to suffer a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Webber International on Sunday to begin the squad's spring break trip.
The Mount (3-3) got off to a fast start by taking No. 2 and No. 3 doubles from the Warriors (3-1). Competing at No. 2, Austin Blake and Mike Zabetakis fought to an 8-4 win over Niklas Kammer and Nickolay Kodinov. The all-freshman pairing of Mateo DeSomocurcio and Louis Tonon was also victorious, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles against Justus Klocke and Rodrigo Santibanez.
DeSomocurcio picked up the lone singles win for the Mount on Sunday, battling Kodinov to a three-set victory. Dropping the first set, DeSomocurcio bounced back to win 6-1 in the second set and 11-9 in the third set tiebreaker.
Tomorrow, the Mount goes toe-to-toe with Palm Beach Atlantic.
