Box Score Bethlehem, Pa. (February 22, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team could not sustain the momentum of scoring twice in the first two minutes and fell at Lehigh on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 10-4 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Erin Seipp scored twice on the day for the Mountaineers.
The Mount (0-2) scored three of its four goals on free position shots, while Lehigh (1-0) held a 19-9 edge on shots. Seipp, who picked up her 16th career multi-goal game, is the first Mount player with two goals in a game this season. 
Carli Sukonik registered four goals and one assist, and Chelsea Retaleato added a hat trick to provide the offensive punch for the Mountain Hawks.
Senior midfielder Lindsay Diaz got the Mount's offense off to a fast start by converting a free position attempt just 32 seconds into the game. Just over a minute later, the Mount grew its lead to 2-0 on freshman Sammie Knapp's first career goal with 1:48 gone.
The Mountain Hawks bounced back with three goals in a row, including two tallies from Sukonik for a 3-2 lead.
Seipp's free position with 18:14 remaining before halftime leveled the score at 3-3. Lehigh found the back of the net twice in the last 10 minutes of the half for a 5-3 edge going into the intermission.
Lehigh seized control of the game with three goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to extend the advantage to 8-3. Seipp secured her second goal of the game on another free position shot with 12:50 left before Lehigh struck again for two more goals in the last 10 minutes.
Coming off a 16-save performance in the season opener against Johns Hopkins, sophomore goalkeeper Steph Rurkowski turned away seven shots on the day for the Mount. On the other end, Alex Fitzpatrick made four saves for Lehigh. 
Senior captain Gabe Little recorded a team-best four ground balls, while Diaz led the way with three draw controls. The Mount finished with 14 ground balls to Lehigh's 19.
Next up, the Mount takes on Delaware State in Dover, Del. on March 1 at 1 p.m.
