FINAL BRACKET
Emmitsburg, Md. (October 5, 2014) – The Mount men's tennis team capped the Mount St. Mary's Invitational on Sunday with a perfect 6-0 doubles record, including wins in the championship matches of Flight A and B. The Mount also added a Flight B singles championship thanks to Darren Mast's straight-set victory.
Competing in the top flight, junior Austin Blake and freshman Brandon Wortkotter were crowned the winners after earning an 8-3 victory over Howard's Ismael Kaouache and Myron Davis in the finals. Earlier in the day, the pair picked up an 8-6 win against Reid Burch and Brett Shriver of Loyola in the semifinals.
The Mount's other doubles championship came in Flight B where Mast and fellow sophomore Louis Tonon fought to a 2-0 record in a pair of highly-contested matches. To open the day, the Mast/Tonon tandem downed Loyola's Tyler Blessing and John Ferruzzi, 8-7 (3), in the semis. Moving onto the finals, Mast and Tonon played their way to an 8-7 (4) victory over Loyola's Harrison Kunkel and Blest Jones.
The Mount picked up two more victories to win the Flight A consolation bracket courtesy of Adam Salam and Mateo DeSomocurcio, who beat Clark Chapman and Steven Kaplan of Dickinson and William Jones and Laguna Foster from Howard on the day.
Mast and Tonon also turned in strong performances in singles with a win apiece. Mast earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Kaplan from Dickinson to win the Flight B bracket, while Tonon was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Loyola's Kunkel to take the consolation bracket for Flight C singles.
The Mount returns to the Mount Tennis Courts to face La Salle on Saturday, Oct. 11, at noon.
