MOUNT UPDATE: Carrying a 1-0 record and with three tournaments already in the books, the Mount women's tennis team plays at home for the first time this season on Oct. 3-5 for the Mount St. Mary's Invitational. The tournament is the beginning of five competitions at home during the month of October for the Mount.
INVITATIONAL DETAILS: The tournament will utilize the Mount Tennis Courts as well as the courts at nearby Catoctin High School. Play will include two flights of doubles and five flights of singles throughout the weekend. First round of singles kicks off the play on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The following day, two rounds of doubles and one round of singles will be played with finals for singles and doubles set to take place on Sunday.
THE FIELD: The Mount's competition will include individuals from Bucknell, Loyola, Dickinson and Howard.
LAST TIME OUT: In the first dual match of the fall season, the Mount put on a dominating performance in a 9-0 win over Shepherd on the road on Sept. 24. The Mountaineers won all three of the doubles matches against their Division II opponent and went on to claim wins in all six singles matches in straight sets.
AT LAST YEAR'S MOUNT ST. MARY'S INVITATIONAL: The Mountaineers turned in a number of strong performances at last year's event. On the last day, sisters Kelly and Jennifer Smith came away with a win in the finals of the Flight A doubles consolation round. In consolation singles finals, Kelly Smith (Flight B), Erin Benefiel (Flight C), Taylor D'Agostino (Flight D) and Kayla Barrett (Flight E) all added victories.
FRESHMEN LEADING THE WAY: With three tournaments and one dual match in the books for the Mount, freshmen Cassandra Powell and Sruthi Kamprath are tied for the team lead with three singles wins apiece. The duo is also even with Kelly Smith and Jennifer Smith for the most doubles victories with three.
UP NEXT: The Mount takes on Towson at home on Wednesday, Oct. 8. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
