Emmitsburg, Md. (October 19, 2014) – Competing for the last time until the spring, the Mount women's tennis team ended the fall portion of its schedule on a high note with a 5-2 home victory over Rider on Sunday afternoon at the Mount Tennis Courts.
The Mountaineers (3-1) jumped out to a 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point over Rider (0-7).
Freshmen Sruthi Kamprath and Cassandra Powell earned an 8-2 No. 2 doubles win over Kerrin Toner and Danielle Scrudato, while sophomore Erin Benefiel and senior Danielle Nguyen won their No. 3 doubles match over Leonora Paul and Montana Morris by an identical 8-2 score. The Mount's pairings of Kamprath/Powell and Benefiel/Nguyen lead the team with six doubles victories apiece.
Moving to singles, Rider took the top two singles matches with the Mount adding wins at No. 3-6. Kamprath and Powell picked up straight set wins in their No. 3 and 4 matches, respectively. Kamprath defeated Scudato, and Powell took down Toner.
In the final two slots, Nguyen played her way to a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Paul at No. 5, and Jennifer Smith beat Morris at No. 6 by the same 6-1, 6-1 score.
The Mount will not compete again until the spring season.
