Salomon and Tonon Take Top Doubles Flight at Mount St. Mary's Invitational

Emmitsburg, Md. (September 15, 2013) – The Mount St. Mary's Invitational finished up on Sunday with the Mount men's tennis team performing well in the top doubles flight. Sophomore Peter Salomon teamed up with freshman Louis Tonon to win the Flight A doubles final on the day.

Facing the tough Coppin State duo of Oleksiy Krylchuk and Daniel Nino, Salomon and Tonon prevailed by a final score of 8-5 to take the championship for Flight A. The Mount's tandem defeated opponents from Loyola, Dickinson and Coppin State during the three-day tournament en route to the title.

Also playing in the Flight A doubles competition, Austin Blake and Justin Olexa won the consolation finals to finish in fifth place overall with an 8-6 victory against Bucknell's Scott Bernstein and Jon DeFrancesch.

Moving to singles action, Blake took on Oleksiy in a third-place match and was able to cruise to a 6-3, 6-3 win in Flight A. Salomon finished as the runner-up in the flight, falling to Loyola's Connor Pietrak, 6-3, 6-3 in the finals.

Next weekend, the Mount heads to Fairfax, Va. for the George Mason Invitational scheduled for Sept. 20-21.
