Emmitsburg, Md. (September 14, 2013) – The Mount men's tennis team completed another successful day at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational on Saturday to set up a potential exciting final day tomorrow. Mount competitors are still in contention to capture the top singles and doubles awards in the tournament after Saturday's performances.
Sophomore Peter Salomon went undefeated in singles and doubles action to headline the Mount's day.
Playing the top flight for doubles, Salomon teamed up with freshman Louis Tonon for an 8-5 win in the opening round versus Loyola's Harrison Kunkel and Connor Lisco. Advancing to the semifinals, the Mount's duo took down Joey Frank and Clark Chapman of Dickinson by an 8-3 margin. Salomon and Tonon will go head-to-head with Coppin State's Oleksiy Krylchuk and Daniel Nino in tomorrow's final.
Sophomore Austin Blake and senior Justin Olexa are still in the running to win the consolation bracket for Flight A doubles tomorrow thanks to their 8-2 win over Dickinson's John Kneisley and Jackson Claudio on Saturday.
Following a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Loyola's Kunkel on Friday, Salomon picked up another win in Flight A singles by a final score of 6-3, 6-2 versus Coppin State's Krylchuk. The win advances Salomon on to the finals to face Connor Pietrak from Loyola, who earned a spot in the finals with a highly-contested 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 win over Blake in the other semifinal match.
Wrapping up play in Flight E singles, senior James Bartolozzi came up just short in the consolation finals, 6-4, 6-1, against Loyola's John Ferruzzi.
The Mount St. Mary's Invitational will conclude tomorrow beginning with doubles play at 9:30 a.m.
