University Park, Pa. (September 13, 2013)--Kristen Galligan finished in eighth place to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's cross country teams at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State University.
Galligan finished the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21:49 to pace the Mountaineers. Stephanie Borland was the Mount's next finisher, posting a time of 22:24 to finish 30th overall. Madeline Rico, Maria Borland and Constance Kniesler rounded out the Mount's top five.
Host Penn State took first place at the meet, followed by Johns Hopkins, Bucknell, Pittsburgh, Geneseo St., Cortland St., the Mount, West Virginia and Grove City.
On the men's side, Chris Jewell was the top finisher, placing 53rd overall in a time of 27:47 for the 5.2-mile course. Jesse Langton, Shane Holcomb, Kieran Tonero and Tyler Giles rounded out the top five.
Bucknell took home first place, followed Cortland St., Penn St., Johns Hopkins, Geneseo St., Pittsburgh, Grove City and the Mount.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action on September 28 at the Father Bede Invitational hosted by Saint Francis University.
