West Windsor, N.J. (April 18, 2013)-- The Mount women's tennis team defeated Wagner on Thursday morning, 6-0 in the play-in round of the NEC Championships. The team won two doubles and five singles matches to earn the victory. The Mount will take on #2 seed Quinnipiac tomorrow morning.
In doubles action, the Mount won at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the doubles point. Kelly Conroy and Sam Pinchoff were 8-1 winners over Wagner's Julia Teichman and Nicole Vukov. The duo senior duo of Carly Landini and Renee Deane won 8-2 at the No. 2 spot to take the doubles point. The tandem defeated Jenna Harris and Rachel Jurgielewicz. The match between Jenny Smith/Liz Rossi and Lauren Hauer/Nikki Arnold went unfinished after the Mount took the two matches.
The Mount won five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets to seal the win. Conroy downed Vukov at No. 1; 6-2, 6-3. Her doubles partner Sam Pinchoff followed suit with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Nikki Arnold at No. 2. Taylor D'Agostino picked up a win over Lauren Hauer; 6-1, 6-1. Carly Landini and Liz Rossi both won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and 5 respectively. Landini upped her win streak to six matches with her win over Julia Teichman. Rossi downed Jenna Harris to complete the sweep. Senior Renee Deane was up 6-2, 3-1 when the match was won by the Mount.
The Mount moves on the the Quarterfinal round against #2 Quinnipiac tomorrow from the Mercer Tennis Center. First serve with Bobcats begins at 9:00 AM.
