Opening Serve: The Mount women's tennis team will open the NEC conference tournament against Wagner on Thursday. If the Mountaineers win, they will face #2 Quinnipiac on Friday. The Mount is coming off a 6-1 win over Monmouth on Sunday. The Mount won all three doubles, and five of six singles matches to take the victory. With the win, the Mount finished the regular season at 8-11 and 3-2 in conference play.
Last Time With Wagner: The Mount won a 7-0 decision the last time these two faced each other back on March 11 in Emmitsburg. The women won every match in straight sets to cruise to victory.
All Time With the Seahawks: The Mount holds a commanding 6-0 lead over Wagner all time. The Mount has won every match, dating back to the first match in 2004.
About the NEC Championships: The NEC Championships will be held in West Windsor, N.J. at the Mercer Tennis Center. The event that starts on Thursday, will feature a round of feed-in matches, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship match. The championship match will be held on Sunday, April 21 at 10:00 AM. The winner of the tournament gets an automatic birth into the NCAA tournament.
Mount in the NEC Championships: The Mount has seven NEC titles, and won them all from 1989-1995. The seven year streak is the longest in NEC history. They hold the record for most title won at seven.
Landini Streaking: Senior Carly Landini (Newark, Del./Archmere) has won five singles matches in a row, including eight of her last ten. She currently leads the team with 20 singles wins, and holds a 20-7 record on the season.
Same Lineup, Different Year: The Mount returns all but one starter from last year. The starting five all return from last year, minus Lauren Clark (Colt's Neck, NJ/ Red Bank Catholic). The team features a slew of veteran experience, with five upperclassmen. The team is spear headed by seniors Kelly Conroy (Tallahassee, Fla./ John Paul II),Renee Deane (Cape Coral, Fla./ Cape Coral), and Carly Landini (Newark, Del./ Archmere Academy).
Dynamic Duo: The duo of juniors Sam Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich./ West Bloomfield) and Liz Rossi (Flanders, NY/ Bishop McGann-Mercy) helped the Mount to their 12-8 record last year. Pinchoff played No.1 singles and finished up with 9-13 record, and Rossi posted an 11-7 record in the No. 5 spot.
