Emmitsburg, Md. (April 14, 2013)-- The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team defeated Monmouth, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The women won all three doubles, and five of the six singles matches to earn the win on Senior Day.
The senior tandem of Carly Landini and Renee Deane won at No. 2 doubles over Ashley Sandler and Dana Ferrari, 8-2. Liz Rossi and Jenny Smith won by the same score at the No. 3 spot. The duo defeated Sarah Turner and Liz D'Arcy. Senior Kelly Conroy and partner Sam Pinchoff completed the sweep, with an 8-1 win at the No. 1 spot. The two defeated Nicole Lippens and Brooke Verdialione to earn the doubles point.
In singles action, the Mount took five of the six matches to seal the victory. Kelly Conroy got the scoring started with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot over Lippens. Fellow senior Carly Landini won in straight sets; 6-1, 6-1 over Ferrari at the four spot. Sam Pinchoff followed suit, winning 6-0, 6-4 at the two spot over Verdialione. The Mount rounded out their points with Liz Rossi and Taylor D'Agostino winning in straight sets. Rossi was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Turner, while D'Agostino was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Emily Ellis.
The Mount returns to action on Thursday in the NEC Championships. Their opponent and time has yet to be determined.
