Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 12, 2013) -- After building a 7-3 halftime lead, the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team scored the first six goals of the second half en route to a crucial 13-5 victory over Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference play on Friday at Waldron Family Stadium.

The win helps the Mount (5-9, 4-2 NEC) remain in a tie for third place with Bryant with three conference games remaining.

Kaitlyn Larrimore netted four goals for the second time this season, while Lindsay Diaz scored a hat trick and recorded a game-high five draw controls in the win for the Mount. Sarah Jane Leder also put together a strong performance between the pipes with eight saves, including five in the second half.

Two Hannah Gutcher goals sandwiched a free position goal by Allie Fife to give the home side a 3-0 advantage 11:83 into the game.

Emily Pepe scored the first of her two goals on the day at the 15:38 mark to get Sacred Heart (4-8, 3-3 NEC) on the board.

Gutcher completed her second-consecutive game with three points with an assist to Larrimore for a 4-1 lead with 13:56 remaining in the half. The two sides took turns scoring goals with Mary MacAdam scoring once and finding Molly Morris for another for the Mount and Taylor Babin and Kelsey Russo finishing goals for SHU to keep the score within three at 6-3 with 8:45 left before halftime.

Diaz's strike less than a minute later gave the Mount a four-goal cushion at 7-3 heading to the break.

Out of halftime, Diaz found the back of the net twice in the first nine minutes to go with Larrimore's second of the game to build a 10-3 edge. Larrimore, who now has a team-high 14 goals in NEC play, scored twice more in the next eight minutes for a 12-3 Mount lead.

Morris' free position goal at the 10:22 mark gave the Mount its first 10-goal lead against an NEC team this season at 13-3.

Two goals from the Pioneers in the final 2:50 of the game proved to be too-little-too-late in the Mount's 13-5 victory.

Babin and Emily Pepe both scored two goals and had an assist for the Pioneers, who fall into a tie for sixth place in the NEC.

The Mount won the turnover battle with 13 to Sacred Heart's 15 and also picked up more ground balls than the Pioneers by a 16-12 margin.

Defensively, Gabe Little had a team-high five ground balls in her third game with at least five this season.

On Sunday, the Mount will take on Quinnipiac for senior day at Waldron Family Stadium on campus at noon. Larrimore and Fife will be honored before the game.

NOTE: The Mount has now won four games in a row against Sacred Heart.
