Mount St. Mary's Women's Lacrosse Hosts Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac to Finish Home Schedule

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers split a pair of road Northeast Conference games by defeating Saint Francis U on April 5 by an 11-5 final before falling at Robert Morris, 14-9, on April 7. In Friday's win over the Red Flash, Kaitlyn Larrimore registered a career-high six points on three goals and three assists to go with Molly Morris' first career hat trick. Against the Colonials, Hannah Gutcher and Erin Seipp finished with two goals and one assist apiece, but it was not enough as Robert Morris scored 11 times in the second half.

SENIOR DAY: Sunday's showdown with Quinnipiac will mark the final regular season home game for the Mount and will also serve as the senior day celebration. Senior captains Allie Fife and Kaitlyn Larrimore will be honored before the game. Fife has made 27 career starts in 64 appearances. The senior from Alexandria, Va. has recorded 18 goals and nine assists for 27 points. This season, she set career highs for goals (8) and assists (4). Larrimore is a three-year starter for the Mount who ranks 17th in school history with 66 career goals. The North Harford graduate is 26th in the program's history with 78 career points. Graduate student Sarah Jane Leder, who was honored during last year's senior day ceremony, will also be playing her final home game. The Mount's starting goalkeeper this season, Leder has registered 123 saves in her career, which is good for ninth in school history. 

ABOUT SACRED HEART:  The Pioneers picked up wins over Wagner (12-8) and LIU Brooklyn (17-4) last weekend as Shelby Vaccaro earned NEC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Vaccaro, who leads the team with 30 goals and 48 points, racked up eight goals and two assists against Wagner and LIU Brooklyn. Defensively, SHU ranks eighth out of 10 NEC teams with a 12.36 goals against average.

ABOUT QUINNIPIAC: Winners of three of their last four games, the Bobcats have scored in double digits in all five wins this season. Quinnipiac leads the NEC with 6.00 assists and 16.67 points per game. Kyra Ochwat ranks first in the conference with 2.80 goals per game, while Sarah Allen leads the NEC with 30 assists and 2.50 assists per contest. 

LAST TIME WE MET: The Mount defeated SHU twice last season, including a 7-4 win in the first round of the NEC Tournament. Quinnipiac defeated the Mount, 12-10, on March 30, 2012. Erin Seipp scored four goals and added one assist for the Mount in the defeat. 

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mount is a perfect 8-0 at home against the Pioneers and leads the all-time series, 13-5. The Mount has won three games in a row in the series, which dates back to 1998. Quinnipiac has won 10 out of 19 games against the Mountaineers all-time since 1998. The last eight meetings have gone to the Bobcats.  

PLAYOFF RACE: The Northeast Conference Championships are scheduled to get underway with the semifinals on April 26 and the finals on April 28. Both rounds will be held on the regular season champion's home field. Central Connecticut State and Monmouth are tied for first place at 5-0. Four teams are tied for third place at 3-2 including the Mount, Bryant, and this weekend's opponents Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac. 

RECORD BOOKS: With 123 career saves, Sarah Jane Leder ranks ninth all-time in Mount St. Mary's history. Lindsay Diaz's 98 career draw controls are good for 11th in school history. Gabe Little has caused 54 career turnovers which is 16th all-time and Kaitlyn Larrimore's 66 career goals are good for 17th in Mount history. 

DIAZ LEADING: Lindsay Diaz has scored a goal in 10 of the Mount's 13 games and leads the team with 18. For her career, Diaz has notched at least two goals in a game on nine occasions.

LARRIMORE BACK ON TRACK: Kaitlyn Larrimore, the team's leading goal scorer in 2012, is third on the team with 16 goals this season. After scoring in five of the first six games of the season, Larrimore was held without a goal for the next three games.  She is currently riding a four-game scoring streak with 10 goals during the span. The senior has 17 multi-goal games in her career.

POINTS LEADER SEIPP: Erin Seipp took over the team lead for points with a combined four goals and three assists over the weekend. The sophomore has a team-best 24 points on 17 goals and seven assists this season. 

GROUND BALLS: Gabe Little moved up to second in the NEC with 39 ground balls this season. As a team, the Mount checks in at third in the conference with a 17.23 ground balls per game average.  

PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was picked to finish third, according to the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll.  Monmouth, the defending NEC Tournament champions, has been tabbed as the preseason favorite while Quinnipiac picked up the final two first-place nods to place second in the poll. It will be the last year in the league for the Hawks and Bobcats with both programs slated to move to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 2014. The Mount finished third in the poll and was followed by Central Connecticut State, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Bryant, Wagner, Saint Francis U and LIU Brooklyn.

HEAD COACH B.J. JOHNSON: In three seasons at the helm, Johnson has put together a 15-8 NEC record and a 20-31 overall mark after leading the Mountaineers to back-to-back NEC Championship games in her first two seasons. The Mount is 10-11 at home under Johnson, 9-19 in road games and 1-1 in neutral site games.

NEW COACHING STAFF: Johnson added two new assistants to her staff for the 2013 season in Dana Cahill and Nicole Price. Cahill played goalkeeper for Johnson at Penn State and was a Tewaaraton Award nominee as a senior. The 2012 graduate ranked second in the nation with 180 saves last season. Price scored 47 goals and dished out 10 assists in her playing career at Mount St. Mary's. She was a 2011 NEC All-Tournament Team selection after scoring a hat trick in a semifinal win over Robert Morris. 

WALDRON FAMILY STADIUM:  At Waldron Family Stadium, the Mount women's lacrosse team has gone 29-24 overall and 24-7 against NEC teams since the Stadium's first lacrosse season in 2007. The 1,000-seat facility is named in honor of Trustee Emeritus Eugene Waldron, C'64, and his family; while the all-purpose lacrosse and soccer field is named the "Lawrence E. Horning, Sr. Field," in honor of deceased alum Larry Horning, C'56. The complex includes an all-weather synthetic "field turf," enhanced locker room and training facilities, restrooms and concession stand and parking.

ALL-TIME RECORD: Now in its 18th season of existence, the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse program is 151-160, 88-62 at home, 59-88 on the road and 4-10 in neutral site games. 

UP NEXT: The Mount will conclude the regular season in New England by facing Central Connecticut State on Friday, April 19, at 4:00 p.m. in New Britain, Conn. Two days later, the team will take on Bryant on April 21 at noon.
