The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team was edged by Florida A&M, 4-3, on Sunday in their first match of their five-match Florida trip.
The Mount (2-3) dropped two of three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. Renee Deane and Carly Landini earned an 8-5 win at the No. 2 doubles spot over Stephanie Miller and Elysia Ortiz. However, Bethany Holt and Symone Townsend defeated Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy (8-5) at No. 1 doubles, and Alexis Dean and Victoria Williams defeated Jennifer Smith and Liz Rossi (8-5) at No. 3 doubles to secure the point for the Rattlers.
In singles action, five of the six matches went to three sets. Kelly Conroy won at No. 2 singles over Dean, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, while Deane defeated Townsend, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 for the Mountaineers. Rossi rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles for the Mount. Florida A&M, however, got wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to secure the victory.
