Mount Women's Cross Country Finishes Second at Christopher Newport University XC Invitational

Newport News, Va. (October 19, 2013)—Kristen Galligan and Stephanie Borland led the Mount St. Mary's women's cross country team to a second place finish at the Christopher Newport University XC Invite on Saturday afternoon at Lee Hall Mansion.  The Mount men's team finished in 11th place.

Galligan finished in third place overall while Borland was right behind in fourth place to pace the Mountaineers in the race.

The Mount finished with 114 points to finish in second place, trailing Johns Hopkins, the No. 1 team in the nation in NCAA Division III, who won the event with 21 points.  The field of 17 included William and Mary, Norfolk State, VCU and North Carolina A&T.

Galligan traversed the six-kilometer course in a time of 22.06.6 to finish in third place while Borland had a time of 22:28.9 for her fourth-place mark.  Megan Schott had a strong performance, placing 26th overall in the field of 147 with a time of 23:43.1.  McKenzie Doyle and Maria Borland rounded out the top five for the Mountaineers, placing 57th and 58th overall.

For the men, Jesse Langton was the top runner, finishing 42nd overall with a time of 26:44.1 for the eight-kilometer course.  Shane Holcomb was 58th with a mark of 27:08.2.  The rest of the top five Mountaineers were Jesse Albright, Kieran Tonero and Kody Wilson.

Up next for the Mountaineers is the Northeast Conference Championships which will be held at the Immergrun Golf Club in Loretto, Pa., on Saturday, November 2.
