Tommy Gruschow finishes sixth at Bryant's Nassaney Invitational to pace Mount cross country

Smithfield, R.I. (September 8, 2012)--Sophomore Tommy Gruschow finished in sixth place to pace the Mount cross country teams at the Nassaney Invitational hosted by Bryant University on Saturday afternoon. The Mount finished in sixth place while the women were in 11th.

THe field featured nine Northeast Conference schools in a preview of the course of this year's NEC Championships.  The Mount men were fourth of the nine NEC squads while the women were sixth among NEC teams.

Gruschow finished the 8-kilometer course in a time of 25:49.4, finishing sixth overall, but first among NEC competitors.  Chris Swisko was 31st with a time of 26:57.7 and Chris Jewell 32nd with a time of 26:58.0.  Rounding out the Mount's top five were Sean Caskey (54th, 27:44.9) and Shane Holcomb (78th, 28:32.7).

On the women's side, Megan Kinsella was the Mount's top runner, finishing just ahead of teammate McKenzie Doyle.  Kinsella was 52nd overall with a mark of 19:42.4 with Doyle placing 54th with a time of 19:50.2.  Megan Schott (60th, 19:56.6), Madeline Rico (75th, 20:16.9) and Colleen Smith (79th, 20:29.2) rounded out the top five for the Mountaineers.

The Mount returns to action on September 21st at the Towson Invitational.
