Box Score Jersey City, N.J. (September 7, 2012)—Junior Ragan Cote scored a pair of goals to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 4-1 win at Saint Peter's on Friday afternoon. It is the first two-goal game of Cote's career.
Cote opened the scoring in the 13th minute when she finished a rebound shot to put the Mount ahead, 1-0. Just over 11 minutes later, Cote scored on a shot in the penalty area for her second goal of the game, pushing the Mount St. Mary's advantage to 2-0.
Sophomore Alicia Mirando tallied her second goal of the year off a corner kick in the 76th minute. Saint Peter's broke the shutout bid with Chloe Zmolek's tally in the 80th minute, but the Mount's McKenzie Buckwalter answered with her first career goal just 28 seconds later. Freshman Sam Manson picked up her first collegiate point with an assist on the play.
The Mount (2-2) carried play throughout the game, outshooting the Peacocks, 23-6, while holding an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.
Cote led the Mount with five shots with Kelly Baker registering four in the win.
In goal, freshman Vicky Cocozza made three saves in the first half to pick up the victory. Fellow freshman Rachel Bourne played the second half, allowing one goal.
Caitlin Hoffer kept Saint Peter's (1-6) in the game, making 13 saves in the contest.
The Mount is back in action on Sunday, September 9, with a 1:00 p.m. game at Howard.
Game Notes: The Mount now holds a 5-4 advantage in the all-time series with Saint Peter's…Goalkeepers Vicky Cocozza and Rachel Bourne have each played one half in all four games this season.
