West Long Branch, NJ (April 15, 2012)-- The Mount men's tennis team lost on Sunday, 5-2 against the Hawks of Monmouth. The Hawks used an early doubles run to grab an early advantage.
The Hawks swept all three of the doubles matches to earn an early 1-0 lead, and never looked back. The duo of Mike Salomon and Adam Salam came close to getting a victory, but fell 8-7 (8-6) to David Sherwood and Laurence Heads in the No. 2 spot.
In singles action, Monmouth won four of the six singles matches to seal the victory. The lone two Mount points came from Mike Salomon in the No. 4 spot, and Adam Salam in the No. 2 spot. Salomon defeated Carl Jedlinski in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Salam won over Francis Jedlinski; 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
With his win, Mike Salomon moves into a tie for the single season singles wins record. He can break the record with a win in the regular season finale against Loyola on Wednesday in Emmitsburg.
The Men return to action this Wednesday against Loyola in Emmitsburg. The match time has yeyt to be determined.
